Lot 100: A Pair of Chinese Style Cast Brass Mythical Guardian Lions
A pair of cast brass decorative figures fashioned as mythical guardian lions or Foo Dogs. Each figure is modelled in a semi-rearing pose featuring ornate curled manes, wide open mouths, and prominent bulging eyes. The pieces show a high level of cast detail throughout the textured fur and scrolling upright tails. The metal displays a golden-brown patina with areas of surface oxidation and tarnish consistent with the casting process. These pieces are characteristic of 20th-century decorative items produced in the Chinoiserie style. There are no visible maker’s marks, reign marks, or signatures on either piece.
Condition report:
The items are in good overall condition with evidence of surface wear, minor pitting, and tarnish consistent with age and handling. Both figures have orange adhesive labels attached to the tails, one of which is inscribed with the number 100.
