An extensive collection of Mason’s ironstone tableware decorated in the Mandalay pattern. This partial dinner service is manufactured from durable ironstone earthenware, featuring a classic Imari-style aesthetic. The decoration incorporates underglaze cobalt blue transfer-printed elements with overglaze hand-painted enamels in iron-red, pink, and yellow. Rims and interior details are further embellished with decorative gilding. The collection includes several groups of items: a large stack of dinner plates, a stack of side plates, and a stack of small dessert or fruit bowls. Also included are a pair of sauce boats of varying sizes, a square serving dish, and a pair of cups situated on a matching rectangular tray. The forms and pattern are characteristic of the Mandalay range produced by Mason’s, although no factory marks are visible on the displayed surfaces.
Condition report:
The items show signs of age and regular use. Significant rubbing and wear are visible to the gilding on the rims of many pieces. A small chip is noted on the edge of the square serving dish. The service displays general surface scratches and light crazing consistent with its material and period. No major cracks or professional repairs are observed.
