Lot 507: A weathered cast stone barley-twist garden pedestal in the classical revival style
A 20th-century garden pedestal or architectural column constructed from cast stone. The piece features a square top with moulded edges and foliate carvings to the underside. The capital is designed with four scroll volutes and central foliate motifs. The central shaft is of Solomonic or barley-twist form, terminating in a circular base. The construction is typical of British reconstituted stone garden ornaments from the mid-20th century. No maker marks or inscriptions are visible on the surface.
Condition report:
The pedestal is in a heavily weathered condition with extensive natural moss and lichen growth. There is visible surface wear and erosion to the crispness of the carved details, consistent with prolonged outdoor exposure. The structure appears complete and sound.
