Lot 352: A Framed Mid-20th Century Needlepoint Picture of Pheasants in a Woodland Setting
A large, rectangular needlepoint picture depicting a cock pheasant and a hen pheasant or partridge perched amongst woodland foliage and branches. The work is executed in a fine needlepoint stitch on a canvas ground using a palette of greens, browns, ochres, and reds. The composition features naturalistic details of the birds plumage and the surrounding vegetation. The textile is housed in a dark-stained, moulded wooden frame behind glass. No maker marks or artist signatures are visible. An orange auction lot sticker is present on the top left of the glass with the handwritten numbers 352 and 9.
Condition report:
The needlepoint is in good vintage condition with no visible losses to the stitching or damage to the canvas. There is light, age-consistent fading to the thread colours, particularly in the background and sky. The wooden frame shows minor surface wear, including small scuffs and nicks to the finish. The glass is intact. An auction sticker is affixed to the glass surface. The backing has not been inspected.
