Lot 612: A Trio of Early 20th Century Shell Motor Spirit Advertising Postcards
A trio of vintage advertising postcards featuring Shell Motor Spirit branding. The ephemera includes humorous illustrations related to early motoring and mechanical repairs. One card features the slogan Don’t Use a Motor Car for Pleasure with a depiction of a breakdown and the caption Oh well, no one can say we’re motoring for pleasure – the damn car’s a Ford!. Another card displays the Shell Motor Spirit logo with the phrases The Keystone of Motoring and Every Can Sealed. The third card shows a figure in a trench coat alongside Shell petrol cans and the caption Helping Father. The cards are printed on cardstock with period-correct typography and colour palettes.
Condition report:
The postcards exhibit age-related toning and minor wear to the corners and edges. Some light surface marks are visible consistent with age and handling.
