An English 17th-century Charles II carved oak coffer of joined construction. The front facade is composed of four recessed panels, each featuring a central carved lozenge motif containing foliate and geometric patterns. A carved frieze displays a repeating lunette arch design above the panels, with an iron lock plate inset into the centre rail. The piece is supported on stile legs and finished in a dark stain. A separate piece of weathered, light-coloured timber is present on the lid.
Condition report:
The coffer exhibits an aged patina with visible surface scuffs, scratches, and areas of finish wear throughout consistent with age and use. The separate timber piece shows significant weathering.
