A dual-purpose sterling silver jewelry item designed as a violin, which functions as both a brooch and a pendant. The body of the instrument features incised foliate and floral scrollwork on the upper and lower bouts. The strings and bridge are rendered in relief. To the reverse, the piece is fitted with a horizontal pin and safety catch for wear as a brooch, and a bail is attached at the scroll for use as a pendant. The item is suspended from a twisted rope-style chain featuring a spring-ring clasp. The reverse of the violin body bears several stamped marks: an oval cartouche containing the numerals 925, a rectangular cartouche containing the characters HIRUS, and a final circular cartouche containing a symbol that is not clearly legible.

The item is in good vintage condition with visible tarnish and oxidation across all silver surfaces, particularly within the recessed areas of the engraving and on the reverse (photo 2).
