A yellow metal long guard chain, also known as a muff chain, featuring a continuous rope-link construction. The chain is composed of multiple fine wires twisted together to form a dense and flexible cord. The piece is fitted with a lobster-style swivel clasp, commonly referred to as a dog clip, designed for the attachment of a pocket watch, lorgnette, or other accessories. The metal possesses a bright yellow finish consistent with gold plating or a low-carat gold alloy. A small, dark mark is visible on the inner arm of the swivel clasp (photo 1), however, the characters are not legible and do not spell a name or represent a clear hallmark. No other marks, stamps, or signatures are visible on the chain links or terminal ends.
Weight: 26.11 grams.
Condition report:
The chain is in good overall condition with no visible breaks or repairs to the rope links (photo 1). The swivel clasp is functional, though it shows significant dark patination and surface tarnish, particularly around the hinge and loop (photo 1), which contrasts with the brighter finish of the main chain. There are no signs of heavy wear or thinning to the individual links.
