Lot 471: Contemporary Pine Storage Trunk
A contemporary storage trunk or blanket chest constructed from pine with a honey-toned finish. The rectangular chest features a recessed flat-panel lid set within a mitered frame. The front and side elevations are composed of vertical tongue-and-groove style planks set into a simple post-and-rail frame. The piece is supported by four square block feet that form a continuation of the corner posts. The interior is accessed via the top lid; there are no external drawer units or visible carrying handles. The finish is a clear coat designed to highlight the natural grain and knots of the softwood. No maker’s marks, stamps, or labels are visible on the exterior surfaces of the piece.
Condition report:
The chest is in used condition with signs of moderate wear. The top lid shows several prominent circular heat or water rings and scattered surface scratches (photo 1). A small chip or notch is visible on the front left mitered corner of the lid frame (photo 1). There are minor scuffs and surface abrasions consistent with use along the base and feet (photo 1).
