A two-piece seating suite comprising a large three-seater Chesterfield sofa and a matching gout-style footstool, both upholstered in deep-buttoned forest green leather. The sofa features the traditional Chesterfield silhouette with a deep-buttoned backrest and rolled arms, finished with brass-toned nailhead trim along the front arm facings and the lower seat rail. It is fitted with three removable seat cushions. The matching footstool features a fixed, tufted leather top set upon a mahogany-finished wooden base. The stool base is constructed with curved X-frame legs joined by a single turned stretcher. There are no visible maker’s marks, stamps, or labels on the exterior of either piece. An orange adhesive price or inventory label is present on the right-hand arm of the sofa, and a white price tag is attached to the rear rail of the footstool.
Condition report:
The suite shows signs of significant wear consistent with age and heavy use. The leather upholstery on the sofa seat cushions exhibits extensive cracking, crazing, and pigment loss, most notably on the right-hand cushion (photo 1). The leather on the top right corner of the sofa backrest and the front of the right-hand arm shows heavy dark staining and patination (photo 1). The footstool leather is also cracked and shows surface abrasions across the tufted top (photo 2). One button is missing from the tufted upholstery on the footstool (photo 2). The wooden frame of the footstool shows minor scuffs and surface scratches to the legs and stretcher (photo 2).
