Lot 410: L. Poole Signed Landscape Watercolour
A traditional watercolour on paper depicting a rural mountain landscape. The composition features a central white-walled stone farmhouse or cottage with a slate roof, situated amidst a valley. A dry stone wall and a timber post-and-rail fence lead the eye through a grassy pasture containing several small white figures suggesting sheep. In the background, a large mountain peak is rendered in pale blue washes, while the foreground is populated by broad-leafed trees executed with loose washes and fine line work. The work is signed in the upper right corner in a dark pigment, reading L. Poole. The painting is mounted within a wide grey mat and housed in a modern light wood frame behind glass.
Condition report:
The watercolour appears to be in good overall condition with no visible signs of foxing or significant fading. There is a slight vertical ripple or cockling in the paper visible near the centre of the composition (photo 1). The mount and frame are in good condition with minor surface wear. No other damage is visible from the photograph.
