Start price: £2

Buyer's Premium:

A framed gouache and watercolour painting on paper by Helen Bradley (British, 1900-1979) titled ‘Family in Spring Lane’. The composition is rendered in the artist’s characteristic naive style, depicting a bustling group of Edwardian-era figures including men in top hats, women in long dresses and bonnets, and children, accompanied by two black dogs. The figures are set against a landscape featuring a large multi-storey red brick textile mill with a tall chimney stack to the left and a row of terraced houses in the middle distance. The scene is illuminated by a hazy, atmospheric salmon-pink sky typical of the artist’s Northern industrial subjects. The work is signed in the lower right corner with a painted signature reading HELEN BRADLEY. The painting is presented behind glass with a dark grey mat and a narrow pink inner border, housed within a gilt-finished wooden frame.

The frame measures approximately 63 x 88 cm.

Condition report:

The artwork appears to be in a stable condition. There is a slight ripple or undulation to the paper support visible under the glazing (photo 1). Significant light reflections and glare from the glass are present in the photography, but the underlying paint surface appears well-preserved with no visible signs of foxing or moisture damage. The gilt frame shows minor surface wear and small scuffs consistent with age and handling.
