Lot 194: Marc Jacobs Sunglasses and a Collection of Carved Components
A mixed lot comprising a pair of designer sunglasses and an assortment of carved decorative elements. The eyewear features dark brown acetate frames in a modified square silhouette with dark tinted lenses. The silver-tone metal hinges are accented with the brand name MARC, and the interior temple tip is marked with the numbers 54 15. The sunglasses are accompanied by a white textured hard-shell case with a black flocked lining, which features a white printed brand mark reading MARC JACOBS.
The lot also includes a group of cream-coloured carved components, possibly crafted from bone or early celluloid. Several pieces are mounted on a yellowed card, showing scalloped edges and pointed terminals, suggesting they are segments for a folding fan or similar ornamental object. A vintage white cardboard box with a decorative border contains additional loose carved pieces with pierced and hinged details. An accompanying plastic bag contains several tightly coiled circular elements in a matching material.
Condition report:
The sunglasses show significant signs of wear, with multiple deep scratches and scuffs clearly visible across the surface of both lenses (photo 2). The interior of the case is contaminated with a heavy accumulation of dust, lint, and debris (photo 2). The carved components show age-related discolouration and surface dirt. The cardboard box is in poor condition with significant foxing, staining, and structural wear to the edges and corners (photo 1). The mounting card is heavily yellowed and appears brittle (photo 1).
