Lot 174: A Collection of Royal Albert Beatrix Potter Porcelain Figurines
A group of English glazed porcelain character figurines featuring motifs from the works of Beatrix Potter. The collection includes a multi-figure grouping titled Flopsy, Mopsy and Cottontail, depicting three rabbits in red capes on a grassy mound. The underside of this piece features a printed brown backstamp consisting of a crown device above the words ROYAL ALBERT ENGLAND, followed by the title Flopsy, Mopsy and Cottontail and the author name Beatrix Potter. The mark includes the copyright notations © F. WARNE & CO. 1954 and © 1989 ROYAL ALBERT LTD. Hand-painted marks on the base include a pink 69 and a small dark character resembling a B. The collection further includes a figure of a mother rabbit in a blue dress and white apron carrying a basket and bundle, a figure of a hedgehog dressed as a washerwoman in a patterned brown dress and white apron, a figure of a white duck wearing a blue bonnet and pink patterned shawl, and a figure of a mouse in a white cap and apron holding a pie. Each figure is finished in a polychrome glaze and stands on a self-contained base.
Condition report:
The collection appears to be in excellent condition. There are no visible chips, cracks, or repairs to the delicate extremities such as the rabbit ears, the duck\'s beak, or the edges of the bases (photo 1). The glazes remain bright and clear, and the backstamps are well-defined and legible (photo 2).
