Live auction will start in __ days and __ hours

Start price: £2

Buyer's Premium:

A set of English bone china tea and dessert wares featuring transfer-printed and hand-gilded decoration. The service is decorated in the Victoria pattern, comprising a recurring blue border of floral swags, foliate garlands, and circular medallions set within a geometric fretwork band. The rims of all pieces are finished with hand-applied gold gilding. The group includes dessert or side plates with slightly scalloped edges, a larger circular serving plate, saucers, teapots with low wide bowls and scrolled handles, and a cream jug with a single scrolled handle and pouring spout. The underside of the ceramics features a blue printed mark consisting of a crown symbol above the word VICTORIA, followed by the initials C.S.A., the brand name RADFORDIAN, and the country of origin ENGLAND. This identifies the manufacturer as Chapmans (Longton) Ltd, an English pottery company operating in Staffordshire. An orange adhesive price label and small white inventory stickers are present on the surfaces of several pieces.

Condition report:

The set is in fair to good condition overall. There is moderate to heavy wear and loss to the gold gilding on the rims of the cream jug and several plates (photo 1). Minor surface scratches and stacking wear are visible on the glaze of the plates (photo 3). One teacup displays a distinct brown circular discolouration spot on the interior base (photo 1). No major chips or cracks are visible in the overview images.
