Lot 35: A Collection of Viners Ltd and Silver Plated Cutlery
A collection of mixed flatware presented in a partitioned grey cardboard box. The group includes table knives and forks featuring cream-coloured handles, alongside an assortment of decorative silver-plated spoons and smaller forks. The steel knife blades are marked with a circular stamp. The text within the circle reads VINERS LTD SHEFFIELD. Below this mark, the blades are further stamped STAINLESS MADE IN ENGLAND. These knives are paired with matching forks of the same handle material. The central and lower compartments contain various pieces of silver-plated flatware, including spoons and forks with stamped foliate and scrolled patterns on the handles. One small spoon features a hammered-effect circular bowl. A white adhesive price tag is attached to the interior of the box reading 25 25, and a fluorescent orange sticker reading 35 is also present.
Condition report:
The collection is in a mixed state of repair and appears to be an incomplete assembly of different patterns. The silver-plated items exhibit significant dark tarnish and iridescent oxidation across their surfaces (photo 1). The steel knife blades show light surface scratching consistent with use. The cream-coloured handles remain intact without visible cracks or heavy staining, though there is some accumulated dirt in the grain. The original cardboard packaging is in poor condition, showing heavy wear, torn corners, staining, and frayed edges. The interior paper lining is discolored and peeling away from the cardboard base (photo 1).
