Live auction will start in __ days and __ hours

Start price: £2

Buyer's Premium:

A pair of storage hampers from the mid-20th century, comprising a large wicker example and a smaller fabric-upholstered unit. The larger hamper is D-shaped, constructed from woven wicker with a flat back and a curved front. It features a hinged lid finished with a thick braided wicker border and a central circular wicker ring pull. The entire piece has been finished in a distressed grey paint. Two small adhesive labels are present on the lid, one orange and one white, which do not contain a readable maker’s name. No other marks are visible. The second hamper is rectangular and upholstered in a salmon-pink textured fabric. The hinged lid is inset with a clear glass panel and reinforced with four brass-toned metal corner plates and a central metal loop handle. The upper and lower edges are accented with gold-toned braided gimp trim, and the unit is raised on four short, square feet with a gold-painted finish. A small orange adhesive label is affixed to the glass lid but is not legible as a brand name. No other marks or labels are visible.

Condition report:

Both items show signs of wear consistent with age and domestic use. The grey wicker hamper exhibits significant loss and scuffing to the painted finish, most notably around the base and along the edges of the lid (photo 1). The woven structure appears intact without visible breaks. The pink fabric-covered hamper shows minor surface wear to the upholstery but remains generally clean. There is visible scuffing and finish loss to the gold-painted feet and the braided trim (photo 1). The glass lid panel is intact and free of visible cracks or chips.
