Lot 193: A Collection of Vintage British Jigsaw Puzzles and a Merit Solitaire Game
An assortment of vintage boxed tabletop games and jigsaw puzzles, primarily of British manufacture. The collection includes a Merit Solitaire peg game, Cat. No. 6391, featuring a printed graphic of a multi-coloured peg board on the lid. The box is printed with the text MERIT, SOLITAIRE, and MADE IN ENGLAND, with a side print reading J & L RANDALL LTD POTTERS BAR. Also included is a large square Waddingtons circular jigsaw puzzle, Stock No. 450, housed in a yellow box with a purple banner reading CIRCULAR PUZZLE; the lid also features the Qualitex brand name. An Arrow Games Fine Art 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle depicts the Rape of the Sabine Women, titled in German as Raub der Sabinerinnen, with dimensions stated on the box as 50 x 75 cm. The lot also contains a 500 piece circular puzzle featuring Middlefell Farm, Great Langdale, with the box stating a diameter of approximately 19 inches (48 cm). A Waddingtons box partially visible at the bottom contains two 500 piece puzzles titled MAINE HARBOUR and NARROW BOAT. A small white adhesive label with the numbers 1 and 1 is present on the front of the outer cardboard container.
Condition report:
The items are in used vintage condition. The Merit Solitaire box lid shows significant surface wear, edge scuffing, and a large tear with paper loss to the lower-left corner (photo 1). The Waddingtons Circular Puzzle box displays edge wear, corner bumping, and surface scuffing (photo 1). The Arrow Games box exhibits shelf wear and crushing to the corners (photo 1). The Middlefell Farm puzzle box shows general shelf wear (photo 1). Completeness of puzzle pieces and game components has not been verified.
