Lot 633: A Fattorini & Sons Sterling Silver Mounted Oak Blackpool Flower Show Trophy Plaque, Sheffield 1927
An early 20th-century shield-shaped oak trophy mount, centrally set with a large sterling silver plate in high relief. The silver design features the Blackpool Borough coat of arms and the motto PROGRESS, set within an ornate border of scrolling foliage, classical columns, and flower-filled vases flanked by two allegorical figures. The text BLACKPOOL FLOWER SHOW is embossed vertically to the left. The silver plate is struck with marks comprising the maker’s mark F&S for Fattorini & Sons Ltd in a rectangular cartouche, followed by the Sheffield crown town mark, the lion passant sterling silver mark, and the date letter k for 1927. A white adhesive lot tag printed with the number 22 is attached to the upper left of the wooden mount.
Condition report:
The silver mount displays surface tarnishing and minor handling marks (photo 1, 2). The oak board shows light surface scuffs and minor wear to the edges consistent with age (photo 1). The adhesive lot tag is present to the upper left (photo 1). No visible losses or structural damage to the silver plate or oak mount.
