A British silver-mounted commemorative trophy plaque dating to the early 20th century. The item consists of a shield-shaped oak mount featuring two hallmarked sterling silver appliqués secured with small screws. The upper silver mount is a relief figure of a footballer captured in mid-kick. The lower silver component is a shield-shaped plate featuring a hand-engraved inscription reading N.W.L. DIV 2. VICKERSTOWN F. GERRARD 1922-23. To the right of the inscription, the silver plate bears a series of four impressed marks: a lowercase x in a square shield, an anchor, a lion passant, and the letters V & S within a rectangular cartouche. A white adhesive paper label printed with the lot number 22 is adhered to the upper left corner of the wooden mount.
Condition report:
The wooden oak mount exhibits minor surface scratches and light age-related wear to the finish throughout. The silver appliqués show fine surface scratches and light tarnishing consistent with age and handling. All mounting screws appear original and intact. The paper auction label is present on the wood surface.
