Lot 259: A Large Rectangular Rococo Revival Style Gilt Composition Wall Mirror
A large rectangular wall mirror featuring an ornate swept frame in the Rococo Revival style. The frame is constructed from gilt-finished molded composition decoration over a wooden base, displaying a complex design of scrolling acanthus leaves, C-scrolls, and floral motifs. These decorative elements are concentrated at the corners and the centres of each rail. The mirror plate is clear and rectangular. A small white rectangular adhesive label is affixed to the top left corner of the mirror glass, bearing the handwritten numeral 17 in black ink. Positioned above this is an orange square adhesive sticker with no legible text visible.
Condition report:
The mirror glass is clear and shows no significant signs of foxing, desilvering, or major scratching in the primary photograph. The ornate gilt composition frame appears largely intact, with the molded scrolling decoration remaining well-defined. There is a visible accumulation of dust and minor surface wear to the gilt finish, consistent with storage. The two adhesive labels are present on the glass surface as noted.
