Lot 188: The Francis Frith Collection, Barrow-in-Furness 1918, Monochrome Reproduction Print

Live auction will start in __ days and __ hours

Start price: £2

Buyer's Premium:

A modern monochrome reproduction print from The Francis Frith Collection, depicting a busy street scene in Barrow-in-Furness dated 1918. The image captures a historical view of a commercial thoroughfare featuring pedestrians, horse-drawn or early motorised transport, and various shopfronts with extended canvas awnings. In the foreground to the left, a woman stands near a child in a vintage-style pram. The print includes a cursive caption to the lower centre reading Barrow-in-Furness, 1918. The lower left corner is printed with the reference number 68396, and the lower right corner bears a printed copyright notice reading © The Francis Frith Collection 1978. The work is presented within a double mount featuring pink and cream layers, housed in a dark-stained wood frame with a gilt inner slip and glazing. Two adhesive auction lot stickers are present on the exterior glass surface in the upper right corner: a white sticker with a blue border reading 21 and an orange rectangular sticker reading 188.

Condition report:

The print surface shows a small vertical mark or scratch in the lower-left corner, located just above the printed reference number. The double mount exhibits slight and even age-toning across its surface. The wooden frame shows minor surface abrasions, scuffing, and an accumulation of dust consistent with age and handling. The glazing is intact but bears two adhesive auction lot labels to the upper right corner.
