Lot 93: An Assortment of British Souvenir and Decorative Earthenware and Stoneware Jugs and Mugs
An assortment of British souvenir and decorative ceramics, primarily comprising earthenware and stoneware pieces. The collection includes a large blue-glazed earthenware jug featuring a slip-trailed white inscription reading Chillingham, which bears an orange rectangular adhesive sticker printed with the number 93. A mid-sized blue-glazed earthenware jug with a white interior rim features a slip-trailed white inscription reading Matlock Bath. A small blue-glazed earthenware mug is decorated with a slip-trailed white inscription reading Goodluck from Seahouses. The collection also includes a small light-blue earthenware jug with a transfer-printed depiction of a seagull on a rocky outcrop. A large, cylindrical cream-glazed earthenware tankard is decorated with a transfer-printed scene of a couple in Regency-period attire and a gilded rim; a small white adhesive label marked with a handwritten 4 is attached to the handle. A bulbous stoneware jug features a cream-coloured exterior, a brown interior rim, and a stamped brown geometric diamond pattern around the mid-section. Completing the assortment is a small cream-glazed earthenware jug with a multi-coloured floral transfer design and the inscription Grasmere in dark script. No maker marks, backstamps, or country-of-origin marks are visible on the bodies of the items in the provided image.
Condition report:
The items are in generally good condition with wear consistent with age and previous use. Significant wear and loss to the gilding is visible on the rim of the large Regency-style tankard (photo 1). Surface dust and minor superficial marks are present throughout the assortment. No major chips, cracks, or professional repairs are evident from the primary viewing angle, although minor glaze flakes or nibbles may be present on the rims of the earthenware items.
