Lot 70: A Twelve-Piece Cased Unity Sheffield Stainless Steel and Silver-Plated Fruit Service
A twelve-piece fruit or dessert service for six, comprising six knives and six forks. The knives feature stainless steel blades and cream-coloured celluloid handles. The forks are silver-plated with flared terminals; any marks present on the forks are not clearly legible. The knife blades are marked with a circular stamp featuring the word UNITY at the centre, with STAINLESS curved above and SHEFFIELD curved below. The service is presented in its original fitted, paper-covered box with a cream lining and integrated holders. The box bears a small white adhesive label with the number 4 and a larger orange price label with the number 70.
Condition report:
The set is in vintage condition. The forks exhibit significant surface tarnish and oxidation across the tines and handles (photo 1). The knife blades show light surface scratching consistent with use, while the celluloid handles remain intact without visible cracks. The presentation box shows substantial wear; the internal lining is heavily discoloured, yellowed, and stained. The exterior of the box exhibits scuffing and paper loss at the edges.
