Lot 49: A set of four matching Art Nouveau floral decorated ceramic tiles
A set of four matching earthenware ceramic tiles, each decorated in the Art Nouveau style with a symmetrical, stylised floral motif. The central flower, possibly an orchid or iris, is rendered in shades of pink and mauve with yellow accents to the centre. It is framed by elongated, scrolling olive-green leaves and stems that form elegant whiplash curves against a cream-coloured ground. The tiles are finished with a clear glaze. A small white rectangular adhesive label on the top-left tile bears the characters 1 and 4. An orange fluorescent rectangular adhesive label on the same tile bears the characters 4 and 9. A partial white adhesive label on the right edge of the top-right tile bears the character 7. No manufacturer’s marks, signatures, or backstamps are visible on the front of the tiles.
Condition report:
All four tiles exhibit an overall fine surface crazing to the glaze. There are several minor chips and areas of wear along the edges, most notably a chip to the centre of the right-hand edge of the bottom-left tile and small nicks to the corners and perimeters of the remaining tiles. The central decorative fields are well-preserved with vibrant colours and no significant surface scratches.
