Lot 22: Large cast iron three-legged cauldron with bail handle
A large-scale cast iron cooking cauldron of traditional form. The vessel features a deep, rounded body with a slightly flared rim and is supported by three integral, tapered feet. A thick, round-section wrought iron bail handle is attached to two integral lugs on either side of the rim. Prominent vertical and horizontal mould seams are visible on the exterior, indicative of the casting process. No foundry marks or manufacturer names are discernible on the visible surfaces.
Condition report:
The cauldron is in a heavily weathered, rustic condition. There is extensive surface rust, oxidation, and pitting across the entire interior and exterior as shown in the provided photograph. Traces of white mineral deposits and lichen-like growth are visible on the exterior surface. The bail handle and three feet remain structurally sound and attached, showing no visible cracks or fractures despite the heavy surface corrosion.
