Lot 726: Two Mid-Century Gold-Toned Vanity Cases including One with Integrated Mechanical Pencil
A pair of mid-century gold-toned metal vanity cases, likely of British manufacture. The first case features a fine engine-turned grid pattern to the exterior with a plain rectangular cartouche to the front. This item includes an integrated mechanical pencil positioned along the hinge side. The second case is decorated with a deep-relief basket-weave textured pattern. Both pieces are constructed from gilt-finished base metal. The set is presented in a white cardboard storage box with yellow tissue paper lining, bearing a hand-marked label 1 over 1 on the side.
Condition report:
The engine-turned case displays visible surface scratching, notably to the central cartouche, alongside minor loss to the gilt finish. The basket-weave case shows light surface wear consistent with age and use. The cardboard box exhibits age-related discolouration and wear to the edges. Functional components including hinges and the mechanical pencil appear to be intact.
