Lot 569: Edwardian Oak Smoker's Cabinet
An early 20th-century Edwardian oak smoker’s cabinet of one-piece construction with decorative scalloped side profiles. The unit features two tiers of glazed doors. The upper glazed door reveals a single open compartment and is fitted with a decorative cast-metal lock escutcheon. The lower glazed door encloses three internal drawers, each fitted with an ornate brass-toned bail handle. The cabinet displays prominent grain, including areas of quarter-sawn oak. The piece bears several auction-related stickers: a yellow rectangular label with the hand-written number 569 on the left side, a small white label with the number 20 on the lower-left glass, and another white label showing the repeated number 20 20 on the right-hand side. No manufacturer’s marks, stamps, or signatures are visible on the exterior surfaces.
Condition report:
The cabinet is in fair antique condition with visible signs of age and use. There is general surface wear, scuffing, and minor losses to the finish, particularly along the edges of the decorative side panels. The wood surfaces show a buildup of dust and grime. A few small white paint-like splatters are visible on the right-hand side. The glass is intact but requires cleaning. The hardware shows a matured patina and some tarnish.
