Lot 383: A Collection of Vintage Matchbox Die-Cast Vehicles in Original Vinyl Carry Cases
A large collection of vintage die-cast model vehicles, primarily manufactured by Matchbox (Lesney Products & Co. Ltd.) as part of the 1-75 series. The assortment features a diverse range of vehicles including passenger cars, commercial transport, double-decker buses with period advertising decals including Visit Britain, BP Visco-Static, and Esso Extra Petrol, as well as construction plant machinery and racing cars. The vehicles are constructed from die-cast metal bodies with plastic windows, interiors, and wheels, featuring standard free-wheeling axles and manual moving parts on specific commercial models. The collection is housed within two original blue vinyl-covered multi-tier carry cases. These cases feature white plastic handles and multiple internal tiered plastic storage trays designed for model vehicle organisation. One case interior retains a paper label bearing a stylised black and red M logo characteristic of the period.
Condition report:
The collection is in overall play-worn condition. Most vehicles exhibit significant paint chipping, surface loss, and wear to decals. Plastic components show signs of ageing and discolouration. Some axles appear bent or out of alignment. The vinyl carry cases show exterior scuffing, surface staining, and edge wear. The internal plastic trays have instances of cracking and warping. Heavy adhesive tape is present on the interior lid of one case.
