TIMED SALE TO END FRIDAY LAST CHANCE
A large oak chest of drawers, following the configuration of a Lancashire mule chest or dresser base, constructed from solid oak with a deep aged patina. The carcase is arranged with a multi-drawer configuration comprising three small drawers across the top, above two medium-width drawers, over a final row of three small drawers at the base. Each drawer front is finished with applied thumbnail moldings to the carcase, creating a recessed panelled effect. The solid plank top features a molded edge and sits above a frame with a central brass escutcheon plate. The piece is fitted with brass batwing-style drop handles and corresponding escutcheons. The chest is supported by a shaped apron and bracket feet. A decorative brass keyhole surround is situated in the top centre of the carcase frame. The side panels show natural checking consistent with the age of the timber.
Condition report:
The chest shows significant structural loss and splintering to the base molding and bracket feet, particularly evident on the right-hand side (photo 1). The top surface exhibits general wear, including scratches, staining, and natural splitting of the oak planks (photo 1). The brass hardware appears inconsistent; the top left drawer shows plugged holes and shadows indicating previous, larger hardware has been replaced (photo 1). The bottom right drawer is missing its handle loop (photo 1). Chipping and surface wear are visible to the drawer moldings and carcase edges throughout.
