A collection of English earthenware service pieces featuring Chinoiserie decoration in the Willow pattern style. The set is decorated with blue transfer-printed scenes of pagodas, bridges, willow trees, and birds, set within a geometric and scrolled border. The rims, handles, and lid finials are finished with gold gilding. The collection comprises a tall coffee pot with lid, a teapot, a cream jug, several cups, and multiple saucers. The base of the pieces bears a blue underglaze printed mark consisting of a crown above a circular seal. The seal contains the characters A.G.H.J at the top, STOKE ON TRENT at the bottom, and WILTON WARE around a central bird motif. To the right of the seal is the stylized script text Ye Olde Chinese Willow, and the words MADE IN ENGLAND are printed below. A hand-painted gold mark consisting of two crossed lines is also present on the base.
Condition report:
The teapot is missing its lid (photo 1). There is significant crazing visible to the glaze throughout the service, particularly evident on the underside of the base shown in photo 2. A long hairline crack is visible extending from the centre of the base towards the foot rim (photo 2). There is visible rubbing and loss to the gold gilding on the rims and handles across several pieces, alongside general surface wear and minor staining consistent with use (photo 1).
