Lot 98: A Royal Grafton Pink Bone China Tea Service for Four with Matching Cake Plate
This English bone china tea service for four comprises four pedestal-foot teacups, four scalloped-edge saucers, and a single square serving plate featuring integral handles and a lobed rim. The service is decorated with a pale pink ground, accented by transfer-printed or stencilled white clouds and gilded silhouettes of swallows in flight. Heavy gilding is applied to the rims, handles, and pedestal feet.
The underside of a teacup base features a green printed mark consisting of the words ROYAL, GRAFTON, BONE CHINA, MADE IN, and ENGLAND arranged vertically. Next to this backstamp is a hand-painted grey pattern number 8696. The unglazed foot rings show minor surface marks. The serving plate features an identical decorative scheme with a gilded border.
Condition report:
The service appears in good overall condition. There is minor surface grime visible on the unglazed foot rings of the teacups (photo 2). The gilding and transfer decoration remain bright and intact across the set. No chips, cracks, or repairs are visible in the provided images (photos 1 and 2).
