Lot 93: A Cased Set of Fish Cutlery with Serving Pieces and Faux Bone Handles
A cased fish service for six, comprising six knives and six forks accompanied by a matching serving knife and serving fork. The cutlery features stainless steel blades and tines, decorated with scrollwork engraving along the blade spines and bolsters. The serving knife is further embellished with pierced floral and scroll motifs to the broad blade. Each piece is fitted with a cream-coloured synthetic handle, likely xylonite or celluloid, designed to simulate bone or ivory, secured with plated ferrules. The blades of the knives bear a small stamped mark in capital letters; while the word STAINLESS is partially discernible, the maker’s name is not legible at this resolution. The set is housed in a fitted presentation case with a blue textured exterior, a black velvet-lined base, and a ruched cream satin lid lining. An orange adhesive price sticker reading 93 is present on the interior velvet lining (photo 1).
Condition report:
The cutlery is in good vintage condition with minor surface scratches and light tarnishing to the metal components consistent with age and use (photo 1). The synthetic handles show no visible cracks or significant yellowing. The fitted case exhibits minor wear to the exterior edges and light staining to the interior satin lining; the elasticated retaining straps for the serving pieces show signs of stretching (photo 1).
