Lot 84: A Collection of Spode Blue Rose Pattern Earthenware Mugs
A collection of ten earthenware mugs featuring the Blue Rose pattern. Each vessel is of tapered cylindrical form with a curved D-shaped handle, decorated with underglaze blue transfer-printed floral motifs. The design consists of dense arrangements of roses, smaller blossoms, and foliage against a cream ground, finished with a geometric and foliate border to the rim and handle. The interiors of the mugs are plain cream. The base of the pieces features a blue printed circular mark reading DISHWASHER, FREEZER, MICROWAVE SAFE around a central Spode logo, followed by BLUE ROOM COLLECTION, c.2006-A11, and the website www.spode.com. Below this, the pattern name BLUE ROSE is stated, accompanied by the text FIRST INTRODUCED c.1825 and Originating from a hand engraved copper plate.
Condition report:
The collection appears to be in good overall condition. There are no chips, cracks, or repairs visible across the group (photo 1). The glaze remains bright and the transfer-printed decoration is crisp and well-defined.
