A pair of English full lead crystal whisky tumblers featuring hand-cut and etched decoration. Each glass is designed with a flared cylindrical form, the lower third of which is decorated with deep geometric mitre cuts in a repeating diamond and wedge pattern. Centred on the body of each glass is a large, rectangular frosted panel containing a detailed nautical engraving. One glass depicts a submarine at sea, showing the sail and diving planes (photo 2), while the second glass depicts a naval surface vessel, possibly a frigate or destroyer, viewed from the bow (photo 3). The tumblers are housed in a rectangular presentation box with a cream-textured exterior and a fitted blue satin-style lining. Centred on the exterior lid of the box is a diamond-shaped yellow and white label printed with a black figure silhouette and the text CUMBRIA crystal, HANDMADE FULL LEAD CRYSTAL, and The Choice of BRITISH EMBASSIES (photo 4). An additional circular white adhesive sticker to the left of the main label features a green mountain device and reads MADE IN CUMBRIA (photo 4). As no ruler or scale is present in the images, dimensions are not provided.
Condition report:
The pair of glasses and their presentation box appear to be in excellent condition. The crystal exhibits high clarity with no visible chips, cracks, or surface scratches (photo 1). The etched panels remain crisp and clear with no signs of clouding. The presentation box is structurally sound, showing only minor surface wear to the exterior corners consistent with storage; the blue lining remains clean and intact (photo 1).
