Lot 72: A Set of Vintage Domino Tiles with Spinners in a Faux Leather Case
A set of dominoes crafted from a polished ivory-coloured synthetic material, likely urea formaldehyde or Bakelite. Each rectangular tile features a central metal spinner, possibly brass or steel, and black-inked pips and divider lines. The tiles are housed in a rectangular storage case constructed from a textured black material, likely vinyl or faux leather over a card frame, with a red lining. The case is secured with a single metal flip-lock clasp at the front. The set includes a variety of pips including double-six, five-four, and blank-one combinations. No maker marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the tiles or the interior or exterior of the case.
Condition report:
The dominoes and case are in fair vintage condition. Several tiles show surface grime and minor yellowing consistent with age and handling (photo 1). The black pigment in the pips and divider lines remains largely present, though there is minor loss visible on some tiles, such as the double-two and the four-two (photo 1). The case exhibits wear to the external corners and edges. The interior red lining shows minor staining and fraying along the hinge line (photo 1). The metal clasp is functional but shows surface tarnishing.
