Live auction will start in __ days and __ hours

Start price: £2

Buyer's Premium:

This lot comprises two distinct sets of boxed cutlery. The first set is a collection of electroplated nickel silver (EPNS) flatware presented in a black case with a cream fabric lining. The set includes six teaspoons and a butter knife. The teaspoons feature a fiddle, thread, and shell pattern variant at the handle terminals. A mark is impressed on the reverse of one spoon handle, reading EPNS in separate rectangular cartouches. The butter knife has a dark, possibly celluloid, handle and a blade etched with the words FIRTH STAINLESS.

The second set consists of six decorative teaspoons presented in a red case with a blue fabric lining. These spoons are made of gold-toned metal, likely gilt-plated, with ornate scrollwork handles featuring oval porcelain inserts. Each insert is decorated with a transfer-printed design of pink roses and green leaves within a gold-line border. The reverse of the spoon bowls features a shell-like textured decoration. No hallmarks or maker’s marks are visible on these items.

Condition report:

The EPNS set shows heavy tarnish and patina across all spoons, particularly evident in the bowls (photo 1). The interior lining of the black case exhibits significant yellowing and large stains (photo 1). The gilt-toned set shows light surface wear and minor tarnish to the plating inside the bowls (photo 1). The porcelain inserts appear intact without visible cracks or chips. An orange adhesive price or inventory tag is attached to the lining of the second box (photo 1).
