A yellow metal shell cameo ring. The piece is set with an oval-shaped conch shell, hand-carved in relief to depict the profile of a woman with draped clothing and hair styled in a classical manner, set against a brownish-orange ground. The cameo is secured in a bezel setting within an outer frame featuring a decorative scalloped or undulating edge. The setting is joined to a simple, slim polished band. A white adhesive paper label is attached to the accompanying plastic bag reading 9k, and a further orange adhesive price or inventory label is present reading 570. The metal has not been hallmarked or tested for purity; however, the accompanying note suggests 9 carat gold.
Weight: 3.59g.
Condition report:
The ring shows signs of wear consistent with age and regular use. The band is slightly misshapen and no longer perfectly circular (photo 2). There is significant darkening and surface tarnish visible to the underside of the setting and the reverse of the shell (photo 2). The cameo carving remains crisp and shows no visible cracks or chips in the shell surface (photo 1). The metal frame exhibits light surface scratching and rubbing to the decorative edges.
