Lot 535: Sterling Silver Engraved Oval Locket on Chain Weight: 8.47g
A vintage sterling silver oval locket accompanied by a matching silver chain. The locket features a hand-engraved foliate and scroll design on the front cover, while the reverse is polished plain silver. The reverse of the locket bears four impressed hallmarks in rectangular cartouches: the maker’s mark DAN, a lion passant denoting sterling silver purity, an anchor symbol representing the Birmingham assay office, and a lowercase date letter in a stylized script. The locket is suspended from a trace link chain which secures with a lobster claw clasp.

Condition report:
The locket and chain show signs of age-related wear and use. There is significant dark tarnishing and patina visible on the reverse of the locket (photo 2) and within the crevices of the engraved design. The reverse surface exhibits moderate scratching and scuffing from contact (photo 2). The chain and lobster clasp appear to be in good functional condition. The internal frames and hinge have not been inspected for tension or completeness.
