Lot 465: A Mid-Century Modern Folding Two-Tier Drinks Trolley with Faux-Onyx Trays
A mid-20th century two-tier drinks or hostess trolley featuring a gold-tone reeded metal frame. The structure incorporates an X-frame folding mechanism, allowing the piece to be collapsed for storage. The two rectangular trays are inset with decorative laminate panels featuring a variegated green and cream pattern resembling onyx or marble, secured within raised reeded gallery edges. The trolley is mounted on four small black rubber caster wheels. A small orange circular adhesive label is present on the upper handle; the characters on this label are not legible and do not identify a maker. No other maker’s marks, labels, or stamps are visible on the piece.
Condition report:
The trolley exhibits visible pitting and oxidation to the gold-tone metal finish, most notably across the handles and the lower sections of the legs (photo 1). There is surface wear and some light scratching consistent with use to the laminate tray inserts (photo 1). The black rubber wheels show signs of age-related wear but remain intact. The folding mechanism appears functional.
