Lot 457: Mahogany and Brass Desktop Magazine Rack
A mahogany desktop magazine rack or newspaper stand featuring a prominent ribbon grain to the back panel. The structure consists of two shaped, arched side panels joined by two horizontal mahogany rails. The front section contains twelve vertical brass-toned metal spindles arranged in pairs to create divided storage compartments. The unit is supported by four shaped bracket feet with a slight cabriole-style curve. The construction is fixed with no adjustable components. No maker’s marks, labels, or stamps are visible on the surfaces shown.
Condition report:
The wooden surfaces show general wear, surface scratching, and some finish loss, particularly visible on the upper edges and the bracket feet (photo 1). A small chip is present on the top inner edge of the right-hand side panel (photo 1). The metal spindles exhibit light oxidation and accumulated dust (photo 1). The polished finish shows some dulling and scuffing consistent with age and domestic use.
