Live auction will start in __ days and __ hours

Start price: £2

Buyer's Premium:

A mid-20th-century mahogany cellarette or liquor cabinet, constructed in the George III Neo-Classical taste. The piece features an octagonal form with a hinged lid that opens to reveal a deep, unlined storage compartment. The lid is secured with an internal wooden stay and a brass piano hinge. The exterior is finished with figured mahogany veneers, featuring cross-banded borders to the top and side panels. The front panel is decorated with an applied moulding creating a recessed field, at the centre of which is a cast brass lion-mask drop ring handle. The cabinet is supported by a separate stand comprising four square-section legs, which are slightly tapered and out-swept towards the feet, joined to the frieze with decorative shaped corner brackets. The interior shows a secondary wood with a prominent grain, possibly a fruitwood or lighter mahogany. There are no maker’s marks, labels, or stamps visible on the piece.

Condition report:

The exterior mahogany veneers retain a well-maintained polished finish. There are minor surface scratches and small indentations consistent with age and use, particularly noted on the edges of the lid (photo 1) and the lower sections of the legs (photo 1). A small yellow circular adhesive label is present on the top surface near the front edge (photo 1 and 2). The interior wood is clean and free from significant staining. The brass hardware, including the lion-mask handle and the hinge, appears original and functional. The structure is stable on its stand.
