Lot 452: A Large Silvered Ornate Rectangular Wall Mirror and a Bevelled Overmantel Mirror
A pair of mirrors comprising a large rectangular wall mirror and a smaller overmantel mirror. The large mirror is set within a wide, ornate frame featuring Baroque revival scrolling acanthus leaf and floral motifs at the corners and centres. The frame is constructed from moulded composite or resin over a wooden subframe with a bright silver-coloured paint finish. The rectangular mirror plate is set behind the decorative moulding.
The second item is a long, narrow rectangular mirror of minimalist design. The bevelled glass plate is held at either end by cast metal or resin scroll brackets finished in silver paint, executed in the Neo-Classical revival style. A small orange adhesive label is present on the top left corner of the glass plate, and another is visible on the larger mirror frame.
Condition report:
The large mirror frame shows significant wear to the silvered finish, with the brown substrate exposed on the ornate corner sections (photo 1). There are visible cracks in the moulded frame material, particularly at the corner joints (photo 1). The mirror plate displays widespread surface dirt and spotting, with a horizontal line across the centre suggesting a potential join or crack in the glass (photo 1). The overmantel mirror shows heavy silvering loss and dark foxing concentrated along the top and bottom edges of the bevelled plate (photo 2). The silver-finished end brackets exhibit surface scuffing and minor losses to the paint (photo 2).
