Lot 45: A Group of Mirrored and Ruby Glass Vanity Items
This collection of decorative items comprises a mirrored vanity tray, a mirrored trinket box, and a ruby glass pitcher. The rectangular vanity tray is constructed with a mirrored glass base set within a brass-toned metal frame. The frame features two scrolled handles with a textured rope-twist design and decorative corner mounts depicting floral and scroll motifs. The tray is supported by four small bun feet. The hexagonal trinket box consists of mirrored glass panels joined by a silver-toned metal framework. The hinged lid is decorated with an etched floral sprig motif and opens to a fully mirrored interior, secured by a delicate safety chain. Completing the group is a translucent ruby-coloured glass pitcher. The pitcher features a globular body with horizontal molded ribbing, a short neck with a pinched pouring spout, and an applied clear glass handle. The base of the pitcher exhibits a polished pontil mark. There are no readable maker’s marks, signatures, or hallmarks present on any of the pieces. An orange adhesive price label is attached to the mirrored surface of the tray reading 45, and a white rectangular adhesive label is attached to the lower corner of the tray bearing the handwritten number 99.
Condition report:
The items are in good vintage condition with wear consistent with age and use. The mirrored tray shows scattered spotting and minor desilvering to the glass, along with oxidation and surface scratches to the metal frame and handles. The trinket box exhibits light surface scratches to the glass and minor tarnishing to the silver-toned metal edges. The ruby glass pitcher is free of chips or cracks, showing only light shelf wear and surface scratches to the base.
