Lot 428: A Pair of Wirework Hanging Planters with Coir Liners
A pair of outdoor hanging plant baskets constructed from black coated metal wire in a traditional lattice-work design. Each basket is fitted with a natural coconut fiber coir liner. The metal frame consists of a series of vertical and horizontal ribs forming a tapered bowl shape, finished with a circular rim. The coir liners are fibrous and thick-walled, designed to retain soil and moisture for horticultural use. One basket is shown upright, while the other is inverted, displaying the structural wire grid on the base. The items feature two adhesive labels: a white rectangular label reading 26 26 and a smaller orange rectangular label reading 428. These labels are located on the wire frame of the inverted basket.
Condition report:
The metal wire frames show signs of weathering consistent with outdoor use, including surface dirt and scattered areas of oxidation, particularly visible at the welded joints (photo 1). The black coating displays light scuffing and minor losses. The coir liners show significant wear; the liner in the upright basket is frayed around the rim and appears partially collapsed and misshapen (photo 1). The liner in the inverted basket appears thin in areas of the base where the wire frame presses against it.
