A trio of framed needlepoint pictures, each worked in wool on canvas with various landscape subjects. The foreground work depicts a long, low stone building, possibly a castle or manor house, situated beside a body of water with surrounding foliage and trees. It is presented in a dark wood frame with a gold-tone beaded inner liner, set within a larger ornate gilt-molded frame. The background work to the left shows a vertical forest scene in a gold-toned foliate-patterned molded frame. The uppermost work features a building with a red tower or chimney set against a dark treeline and blue sky, housed in a simple dark wood frame with a gilt inner slip. A white adhesive label with the numbers 16 16 is applied to the glass of the foreground picture (photo 1). An orange adhesive price label reading 420 is adhered to the top right of the largest gilt frame (photo 1). No signatures or maker’s marks are visible on the textiles.
Condition report:
The needlework panels appear well-preserved behind glass with no visible losses or fading (photo 1). The ornate gilt frame of the central piece shows light scuffing and minor surface wear to the edges and corners (photo 1). The gold-toned frame on the left shows visible surface wear and minor losses to the gilding (photo 1). The simple wood frame of the upper picture shows minor age-related wear to the finish (photo 1).
