Start price: £2

Buyer's Premium:

A collection of 78 rpm gramophone records, primarily mid-20th-century popular music releases, housed in period paper sleeves and a vintage storage case. The visible record at the top of the stack is a UK pressing on the Brunswick label, featuring Victor Young and His Orchestra performing Dancing in the Dark by Dietz and Schwartz. The label is printed in gold on a black background and includes the text Brunswick Ltd. and a tax code comprising the letters M and O. The collection includes various period company sleeves, notably a blue and white sleeve printed with All Star Entertainment on Philips, which lists artists including Doris Day, Frankie Laine, Rosemary Clooney, Johnnie Ray, Liberace, Jo Stafford, Tony Bennett, Guy Mitchell, Louis Armstrong, The Four Lads, Vic Damone, Anne Shelton, Ronnie Carroll, Shirley Bassey, Harry Secombe, Robert Earl, Frankie Vaughan, David Hughes, Bill McGuffie, Art Baxter & His Rock ‘n’ Roll Sinners, and Terry Burton. A Philips logo consisting of a shield with stars and waves is printed on the sleeve alongside the text A Product of Philips Electrical Ltd. Other sleeves present include those from Columbia. The lot includes a rectangular portable record carrying case finished in brown rexine with a flip-top lid, metal latches, and a plastic handle. The records are 10-inch diameter discs.

Condition report:

The records show surface dust, light scuffing, and minor scratches consistent with age and regular play (photo 1). The paper and card sleeves are in poor to fair condition, displaying heavy creasing, significant tearing at the edges, and foxing (photo 1). The cardboard box containing a portion of the records has disintegrated and shows heavy structural damage (photo 1). The portable carrying case shows surface scuffing, particularly at the corners, and the metal hardware is tarnished and oxidised (photo 1). The discs have not been individually inspected for cracks or deep chips.
