Lot 33: A Collection of Vintage English Detachable Stiff Cotton Collars in a Leather Horseshoe Case
A collection of vintage detachable men’s stiff collars, primarily in the turndown style, housed in a traditional horseshoe-shaped travel case. The collars are constructed from multiple layers of heavily starched white cotton. One collar features printed black text on the interior reading PATENTED AND MADE IN ENGLAND / WOVEN FROM EGYPTIAN COTTON / 731 366. Another collar bears the printed brand name VAN HEUSEN. The case is constructed from tan leather with a contrasting yellow-tan interior lining and a wrap-around leather strap. The strap secures with a metal flip-lock latch and two D-rings.
Condition report:
The collars generally appear clean and retain their circular shape, although there is some light yellowing consistent with age (photo 1). The leather case shows significant signs of wear and age, including extensive scuffing and loss of finish to the exterior leather, particularly on the top and along the edges (photo 2). The top carrying handle is missing from the D-rings (photo 2). The metal hardware shows light oxidation and surface wear (photo 2). The interior lining is intact with light soiling (photo 1).
