A collection of monochrome photographic prints, likely silver gelatin reproductions of historical negatives, depicting topographical scenes of the Lake District, United Kingdom. One prominent print shows the Dungeon Ghyll Old Hotel in Great Langdale, featuring a stationary horse-drawn coach with a full team and passengers in Victorian/Edwardian period dress. This print bears a handwritten-style inscription in the lower right corner reading Dungeon Ghyll Old Hotel, with a secondary cursive inscription below it reading Dungeon Ghyll Old Hotel. Another visible print depicts a whitewashed building with signage reading WM MULLEY over ANGLERS INN, identifying the Anglers Inn at Ennerdale. A third print provides a panoramic town view from an elevated position, showing slate-roofed buildings and chimneys characteristic of Cumbrian architecture. The prints are presented in uniform decorative framing, featuring black mounts with gold-toned wood frames under glass. The images serve as historical records of late 19th to early 20th-century Lakeland tourism and transport.
Condition report:
The collection appears to be in good general condition. The prints exhibit good tonal range and contrast with no significant silver mirroring, fading, or foxing visible through the glass (photo 1). The frames show minor signs of handling and some internal dust behind the glass. Some slight shifting of the mounts is visible in several frames. The gold-toned finish on the wooden frames is largely intact.
