Lot 234: A Collection of Vintage Board Games Including Milton Bradley and Waddingtons Titles
An assortment of vintage board games primarily dating from the 1980s, featuring titles from several prominent British and international manufacturers. The group includes The Game of Life, published by Milton Bradley Ltd. with a 1984 copyright date, and Upwords, a three-dimensional word game also bearing the MB logo. A Waddingtons edition of Cluedo, subtitled The Great Detective Game, is present, showing a 1983 copyright date and the text Made and Printed in Great Britain. Also included is Othello, described as the international strategy game, with a 1984 copyright and text indicating it was made in England by a manufacturer in Peterborough. The lot contains a boxed edition of Countdown, based on the television programme and published by MB Games, and a yellow-boxed edition of Spear’s Chinese Chequers by J. W. Spear and Sons. Completing the group is a black textured carrying case with a handle and two brass-toned metal latches. Various adhesive labels are present, including a yellow price sticker on the Upwords box reading 2.34. The box for The Game of Life features a white sticker with the number 5, and a similar white sticker with the number 5 is applied to the black case.
Condition report:
The collection is in used vintage condition with varying degrees of shelf wear visible across the cardboard packaging. The Othello box shows significant crushing and edge wear to the top left corner (photo 1). The Cluedo box displays scuffing and paper loss along the edges and corners (photo 1). The Spear\'s Chinese Chequers box shows age-related toning and minor edge wear (photo 1). The black case has visible surface dust and small white debris particles on the textured exterior (photo 1). Internal components and game pieces have not been inspected for completeness.
